Indefinite Leave to Remain - 10 and 14 Years Long Residency Settlement

ICS Legal Long Residency

Indefinite Leave to Remain

After you have lived legally in the United Kingdom for a certain length of time (usually between two and five years), you may be able to apply to live here permanently (termed as having indefinite leave to remain), depending on the category of visa you have. You should see the appropriate category for more information on whether you can apply for permanent residence and the qualifying period for it.

Long Residency 10 to 14 Years Settlement

The rules on long residence recognise the ties a person may form with the UK over a lengthy period of residence here. If you have been in the UK for a period of continuous residence for 10 years or 14 years, then you would be eligible for settlement under the long residency concession.

Continuous Residence for Indefinite Leave to Remain Long Residency

Continuous residence means residence in the United Kingdom for an unbroken period for the purposes of indefinite leave to remain, and for these purposes a period shall not be considered to have been broken where an applicant is absent from the United Kingdom for a period of 6 months or less at any one time, provided that the applicant in question has existing limited leave to enter or remain upon their departure and return.
